We're Up and Running (Well almost) 

First draft of website :) 

How exciting. It’s far from finished, but it’s a start. You can’t log in or anything yet, but you can take a pic and save it to your computer and there is an about page. 

So, enjoy!

This is the most recent change to the webcam front. It’s taken me most of the day but at least i’ve learnt a few things which is the main point to this really isn’t it!

Online forum site that allows people to register, start and contribute to topics. Topics vary from help and advice to treatments and side effects to and general chit chat. This site has a wealth of knowledge not only from professionals but those who have been through breast cancer and who want to share their experiences in hope of helping someone else. You can talk to others who are in the same situation as you and find out how to check yourself out for any signs of breast cancer and inspiration for other users.

Mainly focusing on researching into finding a cure to fight cancer by funding research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure. 

It’s My Birthday Week and I’m Doing Work…!

Well it’s that time of year when the world comes together in celebration of the day of my birth, (not the berlin wall, i’m clearly more important!)

But alas, the hardcre student that I am, i’m still doing bits of work. Today I did some contextual anaylsis of whats out there already thats similar to my project. 

It’s gone well so far, but i’m calling it a night now. Eat. Drink. Pass out.

Video Upload - Sorted :)

After having a heart to heart to a (super nerdy) coursemate of mine about random stuff, we eventually got talking about our projects and I was telling him about my trouble with finding an open source flash media server (you know, trying to get it to actually work) and he came up with the GENIUS idea of using a youtube API to allow users to upload a video to a youtube channel dedicated to my project, get them to add a tag line to each video which would allow me to bring all those tagged videos to my site and display them that way. Having each user sign up to youtube (which no doubt most of them have anyways!) which I would then link my website to get all the videos. 

So i’m much happier about my project. I’m in the middle of doing another tester snapshot flash tutorial (which isn’t working atm, much to ones frustration!) and now know how i’m going to sort out the video aspect to my site. 

Soon I should have a prototype of uploading the video to my site and the photo snapshot thing up and running. 

Fingers crossed people. Fingers crossed!

So i’ve been searching for breast cancer campaigns to email to get their advice on my project and just to get more info on breast cancer itself. I’ve had replies from all the companies i’ve emailed which was really nice and most gave me really useful information and wished me well in my project.

I’ve been watching the Charity Trek for Breast Cancer Care on the ITV, so i decided to search for the woman who were on the trek and email them with my idea to get their opinion. I had a breakthrough when I found the official Facebook group and messaged all the administrators. I’m just awaiting their reply!

Other sites i’ve emailed and got responses from these sites so I guess my next step is to get organised with all the content I want to include. Oh joy!

So this is the type of thing I want to include on my site, in the fun bit. I eventually emailed the guy who made it for advice on how he made it and he was surprisingly really helpful. He gave me all the open source stuff he used and hoped me well in my project. It’s always nice to have people give you what you want!
